It's pretty hard to notice spammers on twitter. I mean when you're just starting and have 12 followers you'll have no problems but once you get couple hundred readers it's kinda hard to keep track of all followers.

A lot of great information in this post. Thanks for sharing.

In regards to your 'no engagement / no value' section - it's true many people follow only. My feeling is that they are either:

1: A bit shy about engaging in conversation
2. Looking to Twitter as a landscape of resources

As you stated, active users could be the ones who begin the conversation with those who are not participating actively. Just as in real life networking, there are always those who are not sure of themselves and become wallflowers.

THEN, if you don't see results, I would agree that unfollowing is the way to go.

Good piece; I like the idea of friendorfollow.com, but I find that the info there is very inaccurate. It's important to double-check who they say isn't following you before you unfollow them. (I usually double-check using Tweetdeck.)

However, it's worth checking out the site if only for the bunny rabbit.

therichbrooks’s last blog post..therichbrooks: Even though http://friendorfollow.com isn't especially accurate, I still go there for the bunny.
