Thanks for the detailed write up.

We do plan to offer settings so you can turn on and off features. We are also working on a version that will work on Safari and Chrome but have no mobile plans at the moment.

Just a note, PT does not impact the loading of any twitter page. PT starts after the page is loaded and it can take a while if there are 10 or so urls in tweets to unwind and look them up. But as more people use PT, more of those are cached speeding things up.
