Most common reason why people don’t use Social Media

Whether its youtube, facebook or even blogging, Some people are afraid of change.  They don’t want to adapt to change even if it has been increasingly popular.

Taking a look back at history shows change is coming whether we like it or not.

BETA vs VHS

Back in the late 70’s early 80’s, there was a Format war for video cassette format between Beta and VHS.  A lot of people were used to just watching TV that they didn’t even want to hear about this new format.

Well Time unfolded and VHS won the war and eventually almost every house hold were forced to get a VHS to stay on the cutting edge.  All the stores were selling VHS, you had to get one.

Moving ahead to music media.

Cassette vs CD

Again everyone had a cassette tape and prior to that an 8 track….but the popular media has forced us to buy Cd’s, they were every where in stores and all the current stores only sold Cd’s and took the cassettes off the shelf, a force in change.

Present Market – Blu-ray vs HDVD

The new format war was won recently by Blu-ray disc ( 25 times the capacity of a DVD disc…they are even in the process of making 500+GB Blu-ray discs)

Blockbuster, Netflicks and all the current movie stores including retailers like Wal-Mart is pushing to have almost all DVDs off the shelf by the end of next year and just sell Exclusively Blu-ray discs

This again is another force of change in the industry, we will all soon be retiring our DVDs for Bluray.

Two reasons not to be afraid of Change

1.) Don’t be left behind - Denying change or being afraid of change will cause you to be left behind in this digital age.  As with the timeline of media, so can Social Media change and don’t fall behind before its too late.

2.) Embrace change – We all heard the saying of “If you can’t beat them, join them” This holds true to change as well.  Change is inevitable and it is coming whether we like it or not, so instead of fighting the change lets embrace it.  This will only lead us to become masters of this new media and find ways to evolve instead of standing still or falling behind.
