Facebook is an essential tool for me to keep in touch with friends and relatives that I otherwise has no time on my hands to meet up with. I’ve even used this social tool to reconnect with old school friends from way back, which I would not have been able to do if it weren’t for the internet. Though, lately I’ve found it difficult not to check my account and catch myself constantly checking for messages from people that I hardly know. I think I may be getting addicted to Facebook and its importance in my life may be spiraling out of control. Not too long ago we survived just fine without mobile phones and now the very thought of being disconnected seems unthinkable.

@Elisa - Thank you for checking out my post and commenting. To answer your question is yes I believe Facebook is a Great Networking tool to add to your arsenal. I used to keep Facebook just a family/friends tool until I realized that Facebook works the same networking was as in the Real World. I add quality friends that are in my niche to my Facebook friends database, I just dont add any joe schmoe. I believe that many people out there are still afraid to take that leap and thats fine, the main point in doing so is increasing EXPOSURE and expanding QUALITY BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS. I might actually make another blog post regarding this :-) Thanks for dropping in! ciao!

Thanks for sharing this important info. Once people get past the fear of technically how to use Facebook and Twitter they are so exhausted and just dont think HOW to use it correctly. Being proactive is something you have to let go of fear and just do it , deepened relationships will naturally happen.

After just commenting somewhere else that there IS no cookie cutter advice I find this about 12 posts down in my reader. Such a good analogy, the idea of "making the first move" in social media. I frequently say that it's just like a huge game of dating. The end result is building lasting and deep relationships with the people you meet, so I suppose it sort of it, just without the making out on the front porch after a great movie.

However, I'm still not sure I'm 100% sold on the idea of Facebook evolving into a commercial "tool." I use it to keep up with folks I KNOW and are close to me. I had to take a minute to figure out what "groups" there were on Facebook (apparently I'm in like 30 of them...) Have you found a good reception on Facebook using it for promotion, or has it hurt your "existing relationships" trying to "flirt" with someone else?
